Steve Chapin performing as Uncle Stogie, The Human Jukebox, will deliver selections from the era between the World Wars, bringing them to life with the historical context and backstories that accompany them.  It's during this time that American music conquered the world with the melodies and lyrics of Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Rogers & Hart, the Gershwin brothers, Harold Arlen, and Hoagy Carmichael.

A member of the famed Chapin musical family, Steve was Harry Chapin's arranger, producer, and bandleader through 1981.  He was a partner in the production company Look & Chapin, won a CLIO award for the Dentyne "Brush Your Breath" campaign, and also produced 3 gold records for Parker Brothers relating to the "Cabbage Patch Kids".  He has been performing live for 40 years with The Steve Chapin Band, and The Chapin Family.

Mike Agranoff presents an intelligent and highly entertaining program of songs, tunes, stories and humor. Mike plays a superb fingerstyle guitar in idioms ranging from traditional fiddle tunes, to the American Songbook, to contemporary Americana. He is a master of the little-known English Concertina, applying it anywhere from a haunting and poignant song accompaniment to an unexpected virtuoso transcription of a Bach concerto. A performance might include a song of heart-stopping emotional impact, a Scott Joplin piano rag, an acapella Irish patter song sung to the melody of a mile-a-minute fiddle tune, a riveting recitation in the style of Robert Service, and some of the most horrible parodies ever perpetrated on an unsuspecting audience. More a singer-songfinder than a singer-songwriter, Mike combs the canon of contemporary and traditional songs for little-known gems, puts his unique stamp on them, and brings them to the stage.

Willy Porter & Carmen Nickerson

Fri., September 22nd at 8 pm

Midwest artists Willy Porter and Carmen Nickerson are an exciting the indie-duo scene, with their liquid harmonies and unassailable, playful performance chemistry. These two solo artists have joined their unique talents to create the unforgettable sound of Porter Nickerson.

Porter has been turning first time listeners into die-hard fans for more than two decades. His blistering guitar playing and rich songwriting provides the perfect architecture to support Nickerson’s lush vocals, complimenting and elevating Porter’s songs to make them feel both fresh and timeless. The pair first collaborated on the 2013 EP Cheeseburgers and Gasoline and again on Porter’s 2015 record Human Kindness. In 2016 the duo performed as the featured musical guests on NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion.

Their first album co-written album of originals - "Bonfire to Ash" - has been produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Ben Wisch (Marc Cohn, Jonatha Brooke). Bonfire to Ash bridges the intimate with the universal. Porter's and Nickerson's unique dialogue on this record carries over into their unassailable stage chemistry - taking audiences on a ride full of heart, grit, energy, and fun that showcases the best of what live music has to offer.
